The figure comes from the listing website DoneDeal’s Price Index for Q1 2023.
The figures showed 9,303 new EVs registered in Ireland, an almost 50% increase on the same period last year.
The number of new EVs has grown considerably in Ireland in the past few years from just 1,233 in 2018, to 4,013 in 2020, up to 15,676 in 2022.
DoneDeal said this increase in EVs had trickled into the used car market, with Q1 of 2023 seeing almost triple the number of used EVs for sale on the website than any quarter of 2022 (approximately 1,500 ads).
This increase appears to have had a positive effect on used EV prices, with overall prices decreasing by 0.7% in the first quarter.
This is in stark contrast to the overall used car prices for the period, which rose 4.6%.
