Revenue agents at Dublin Port have seized more than 3.6 million cigarettes. The counterfeit Rothmans and Lambert and Butler cigarettes are valued at about €2,866,750 on the open market.
According to Revenue, this might result in an Exchequer loss of more than €2,244,400. They were found when 12 pallets that were sent from Latvia and landed in the Netherlands were examined.
The seizure, stated by Revenue, is part of continuing operations aimed at stopping the supply and sale of illicit cigarettes and tobacco in the underground market.
