According to The Laois Nationalist, the Hare's Corner in Irishtown, a small town west of Mountmellick, posted on Facebook that it will be giving customers who brought their own tableware a discount on takeout orders.

The proprietors said that the step would help them to avoid passing along rising costs to clients as food containers had lately increased in price.

“We have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of takeaway dinners over the previous several weeks.”

A Facebook post on the restaurant's page, “With the times that we are living in this also means a higher cost for packaging.”

“However, after some deliberation, we concluded that rather than charging customers more, we should strive to eliminate much of the packing and refund the client for the cost of the containers.”

We are now offering a ‘bring your plate’ option for takeout orders exclusively.

The article stated that the restaurant will wrap orders for customers and made fun of the fact that they “haven't completely lost the plot” by saying that the cost of packing will be subtracted from the order price.

The eatery said, “It's one way of kicking price increases in the bum.”
