A student barricade in Dublin's Trinity College prevents visitors from viewing the Book of Kells.

In an effort to draw attention to the high expense of rent, several members of the university's student union have blocked the entrance to the Long Room.

The students' union at Trinity is protesting the ongoing price hikes for on-campus housing, which have increased by 2% this academic year.

The entrance to the tourist attraction has been blocked by about 30 students holding signs that read "students not cash cows" and "freeze rent."

Trinity College "makes €10 million a year" from its student housing, according to a statement from the college's student union. The statement continued, "If they take money from the students, then the students will take money from college, by blockading one of Trinity's most profitable attractions."

Trinity College Dublin has issued a statement stating that The Old Library is still inaccessible to the general public and that all customers who have purchased tickets in advance will receive a full refund.
