Since 4 am, people have been waiting in line outside the facility. The hampers are scheduled for pick up the following week.

Father Kevin Kiernan, the centre's director, stated to RTÉ's News at One: “I believe 2,600 tickets were distributed last year. It has ended.”

The Capuchin Day Centre has witnessed a 20% rise in enrolment for all its programmes in 2023.

The facility gives grocery bags on Wednesday mornings. 1,450 were distributed today, according to Fr. Kiernan.

Although a wide range of individuals use their services, according to Fr. Kieran, many families require support.

“The child attendance service has increased by 50% this year,” he stated.

As an illustration, 5,200 children arrived in 2022. It is 10,384 this year.”

“We give out diapers and baby food every Monday. We distributed 5,200 diapers and infant food supplies the previous year. It increased to 10,027 this year, a 48% rise.”

According to Fr. Kiernan, they don't question anyone. All they want to do is provide them with “two nourishing meals a day.”

“We welcome everyone, it's our policy. They received the ticket today so they will be certain that they won't have to worry about picking up the food coupon for a hamper next week.”

“It is just heartbreaking to see children homeless and hungry and cold,” he stated.

He noted that visitors to the Day Centre came from across the nation, not just Dublin. “People come up to Dublin, and they become homeless, and we are there for them.”
