The booking website announced that it will be implementing limitations on New Year's Eve in an effort to lessen disturbances to the community brought on by parties at Airbnb-booked properties.
The company claimed that it was analysing hundreds of indications that could suggest a booking is more likely to result in this kind of occurrence in the UK and numerous other nations using AI and machine learning technology.
These include the length of stay, the type of listing, the distance from the user's location, and whether or not the reservation is being made at the last minute.
The global party ban on the website is enhanced by this technique.
Airbnb said that if a booking was found to be possibly more likely to result in a party issue, its systems would reject certain one- to three-night reservations for complete residences.
When making a local reservation, guests will need to attest that they are aware that Airbnb does not allow parties and that breaking this policy could result in their account being suspended or deleted.
"When it comes to how we use technology like AI, we're focused on taking a thoughtful approach that aims to benefit hosts, guests, and neighbourhoods," stated Naba Banerjee, Airbnb's head of trust and safety.
"We hope that these actions will contribute to the betterment of the communities we serve."
It has been disclosed that the lodging booking website implemented anti-party measures over New Year's Eve of last year, resulting in some 13,200 UK users being prevented from making reservations on the platform during that period.
3,300 of those blocked bookings were located in London, with 2,100 in Manchester, 380 in Birmingham, and 260 in Edinburgh rounding out the top five cities.
The company reported that the number of party reports they received in the UK had decreased by 73% after they started implementing party prevention tactics for New Year's Eve in 2020.
