An additional 35 million bus seats will be available for passengers wishing to travel to and from the airport thanks to new permits granted to bus operators. More bus drivers will be able to pick up and drop off passengers outside of the two terminals according to the agreement.
With over 35 million bus seats anticipated to be available by 2025, daa has obtained guarantees from operators that they will provide a seat for every passenger starting in 2024, after a successful competition procedure for the allotment of bus stops at Dublin Airport. In the event that demand warrants it, operators have further committed to boosting capacity in the years.
Approximately 33% of leaving travellers and 35% of the 19,900 employees at Dublin Airport now take buses to get to the campus. The upgrades will begin in March of this year, and depending on operator deployment, more than 1,000 buses per day (up from about 900 last year) are expected to depart from Dublin Airport in 2024 (up from 1,200 per day in 2025).
“Passengers at Dublin Airport, which is already the largest bus interchange in Ireland with services to all 32 counties on the island, will come as great news with the addition of more bus options,” said Vincent Harrison, Chief Commercial and Development Officer at daa.
“According to NTA statistics, fewer cars travelled to Dublin Airport in 2019 and 2023. One factor for this decline is the ongoing emphasis on enhancing convenient public transport connections to the airport. In the upcoming years, the higher frequencies we're presenting today will accelerate that development.”
Dublin Airport's Zone 16 Coach Park will continue to serve JJ Kavanagh, Dublin Coach, Airport Hopper, John McGinley, and M4 Direct, among other scheduled operators.
