An email and video announcing the former Cheltenham winner's intention to run for the nomination in the Midlands Northwest seat were distributed to constituents on Monday.
After retiring as a jockey, Ms. Carberry (39), has been a judge on Ireland's Fittest Family and has featured on RTÉ's Dancing With The Stars.
In June's European election, the constituency will have five seats up for grabs.
“In the Ireland and Europe of today, it is more important than ever for those who believe they can make a difference to put their hand up to make things happen,” Ms. Carberry stated in her speech to party members.
“As a mother of two, I want to make sure that everyone has a bright future by running for Fine Gael in the European elections this June.”
“The Midlands Northwest constituency spans rural, urban, and commuter belt areas, making it vast and diverse,” she continued.
“I have witnessed directly the struggles these communities face having travelled the nation for twenty years and getting to know people through racing and community events.”
“I would consider it a huge privilege to run for election on behalf of Fine Gael and have the opportunity to represent the people of Midlands Northwest,” she stated in her statement.
“I am confident in my abilities in both sports and business, and I am eager to apply my tenacity and resolve to this new challenge.”
Mairead McGuinness and Maria Walsh won seats for Fine Gael in the constituency in the most recent European elections.
Colm Markey succeeded Ms. McGuinness after she resigned to take a position as a European Commissioner.
