Funding for capital projects around the nation was initially allocated €165 billion under the National Development Plan (NDP) 2021–30, which was unveiled in October 2021.
Special attention will be paid to housing, transportation, and educational facilities with this additional cash.
The minister emphasised that there is no connection whatsoever between the extra spending and the next general election, which must happen by March of next year.

He went on to say that Leo Varadkar conducted the discussion in a "very professional manner" and wasn't "emotional" or "sentimental".
When asked if he had spoken with newly elected Fine Gael leader Simon Harris about contesting in the upcoming general election, Mr. Donohoe declined to respond.
"I've had conversations with Simon, but they were mostly about the National Development Plan," he stated.
"My own view is that he is entitled to complete freedom in any decisions he makes, lack of public comment by me while he's doing it, he has an incredibly hard set of decisions to make and I won’t be making them any harder for him," he said.
