The choice was made after the city held a public survey in recent months.
Galway County Council reported that the official name was adopted after the Civic Naming Committee's proposal, which came after more than 60 names were submitted.
In May of last year, the river's first new pedestrian and bicycle crossing in almost 30 years opened.
It is a component of a transit corridor that is being considered for the city, with the goal of lowering carbon emissions and traffic.

By the end of 2022, the structure that had taken many months to create had been lifted into position using cranes.
It is situated immediately south of the current Salmon Weir Bridge and spans three water streams.
The council said that a formal naming ceremony will be place in the upcoming weeks.
