Irish-speaking group Kneecap has actively courted controversy with its controversial products and songs.

The genesis story of the gang is rewritten in the movie.

Three friends who perform under the names Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí created Kneecap in 2017.

Tuesday night, Mo Chara made a joke while walking the red carpet, stating, "They tried to show it at Wembley and we were saying 'no it has to be west Belfast, it has to be where it all started'."

"It feels great to see everyone paying for my film now, considering how many times I used to sneak into movies here."

In response to a question regarding Ireland's Oscar submission for best domestic picture, he described it as "just a great chance to wind people up again."

He remarked, "We're all really proud of it."

"It's fantastic for us that the Irish language is now at the forefront of a lot of what people are talking about," said DJ Próvaí.

"It's a language for everyone, not just one segment of the community," he continued.

"It shouldn't have been used as a divisive tool; it was never intended to be that."

DJ Próvaí described the film's reception as "surreal," citing accolades including the NEXT Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
