The local business Eco Powered Cabinets produced the life-saving apparatus in Co Mayo. In 2022, Darren Forde, the CEO, manufactured and set up the first three of these units in Croagh Patrick.
Since their installation, the defibrillator units have played a crucial role in saving the lives of numerous pilgrims and climbers who have suffered fatal cardiac arrests on the Holy Mountain in the last ten years.
The company that won the prize has since gained a lot of notoriety both domestically and internationally.
The distant rural town of Broome, which serves as the southern entry point to the Kimberley region, has received Australia's first EPC defibrillator.
It will be utilised to service villages and distant mines. "We are thrilled to see these units recognised as far away as Australia and to be able to continue manufacturing them in Ireland. Next Monday, eight more defibrillator cabinets will be shipped.
It's wonderful to see our local Mayo company leading the way in equipment that blends cutting-edge technology with environmentally friendly energy.
"This installation represents a significant milestone for Australia," Eamon Cunningham, MD of EPC Australia, told local media.
"Having worked in mining for 14 years, I understand the critical need for accessible, reliable safety equipment in remote locations" The environmentally friendly cabinets can securely store life-saving drugs and don't need a power source.
The Irish business has identified a market niche and intends to keep expanding its service to isolated areas like beaches, greenways, and mountain summits.
