Most of the layoffs will be in sales, tech, engineering, and support. The losses will account for about 4% of Google’s Irish workforce.
The layoffs come as tech workers around the world are feeling a lowered sense of job security.
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced plans last month to cut 12,000 jobs worldwide. Amazon announced job cuts in the range of 18,000, while last week Meta, parent of Facebook, gave thousands of employees “poor performance” reviews, heightening suspicion that the company is paving the way to announce large-scale layoffs.
