Previously, teams could only be promoted from their four-team group by winning the group outright. A new proposal is seeking to introduce a playoff system for relegation and promotion beginning with next year’s rendition of the competition.

For example, a second-placed team from League B would face a third-placed team from League A over two legs, meaning nations that finish second in their group would still have a chance of promotion in the competition.

The 24/25 edition of the UEFA Nations League will kick off in September of 2024.
