Over the next several days, Johnny Sexton will find out if the verdict of his misconduct tribunal will have any bearing on his participation in the Rugby World Cup. In response to his conduct towards match officials following Leinster's loss to La Rochelle in the Heineken Champions Cup final on May 20th, Ireland's captain was the subject of a complaint.

Due to his ongoing groyne injury, Sexton was unable to participate in the game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The South African referee Jaco Peyper and other match officials engaged him in what seemed to be a heated argument when he returned to the ground after the contest. The six-hour long disciplinary hearing took place on Thursday, and it is anticipated that Sexton and Leinster will be informed of the verdict in the coming days before it is made public.

On August 5th, Ireland will play its first pre-World Cup encounter against Italy. England and Samoa will then visit Ireland later in the month. On September 9th, they play Romania in Bordeaux in their opening World Cup match, so a ban for Sexton, who will retire after the competition, might have an impact on his availability.
