More than 755,000 travellers passed through the airport between June and August, making it one of the busiest seasons in recent years.

The increase has been credited to Shannon’s broadening route network, which now includes 36 services and five daily transatlantic connections. Holiday favourites such as Lanzarote, Malaga, Palma, Alicante and Faro once again drew strong demand, while the launch of a year-round service to Madeira proved a popular new addition.

Looking ahead, the Winter 2025 schedule introduces further growth. A new Ryanair service will connect Shannon with Madrid, alongside seasonal flights to Lapland and the continuation of the Madeira route. Existing routes are also being strengthened, with extra flights to Alicante, Edinburgh, Krakow, Lanzarote, Manchester and Wroclaw.

Across the Atlantic, Aer Lingus is set to expand its Shannon–Boston schedule next summer, with passenger numbers on US services expected to top 350,000 in 2026, the highest since 2018. A new Shannon–Frankfurt service, operated twice weekly by Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, will also be added to the summer 2026 programme.

Niall Kearns, Shannon Airport Director, described the summer as one of strong momentum. “We started with a bumper June Bank Holiday weekend and it never slowed down,” he said. Alongside passenger growth, the airport has invested in infrastructure, including 1,000 new parking spaces and upgrades under a €30 million development programme.

Kearns said the team is now focused on delivering an “exciting winter season,” highlighting Madrid and Lapland as standout additions to the schedule.
