The medal count increased on Wednesday evening when Sophie Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke, Phil Healy, and Sharlene Mawdsley secured a silver medal in the Women’s 4x400m Relay.
In an outstanding performance, the Irish team set a new national record of 3:22.71, surpassing the previous record by 1.7 seconds.
Despite their impressive time, Ireland’s 4x400m Women’s Relay team narrowly missed the gold, finishing just .39 seconds behind the Netherlands.
The silver medal on Wednesday followed a series of successes: the Irish mixed 4x400m relay team won gold last Friday, Ciara Mageean claimed gold in the 1500m on Sunday, and Rhasidat Adeleke earned silver in the 400m on Monday.

Throughout the European Championships, Team Ireland set three national records (Mixed 4x400m Relay, Women’s 4x400m Relay, Women’s 400m), achieved 12 season bests, and recorded three personal bests.
This year’s performance surpasses Ireland’s previous best of three medals at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest.
Before this week in Rome, only one Irish athlete—Sonia O’Sullivan—had ever won gold in the event’s 90- year history.
