The announcement followed GAA president Jarlath Burns’ expression of doubt regarding the West Belfast venue’s chances of staging games for the major soccer tournament in four years.


In a statement to the PA news agency, Ulster GAA emphasised the importance of the Department for Communities at Stormont advancing the tendering process for construction to meet Uefa deadlines. It also urged the Stormont Executive to hold an urgent meeting to address the issue.


Casement Park, currently in a derelict state, has been proposed as a site for five Euro 2028 matches. However, the necessary funding to complete the stadium in time remains unsecured, raising concerns that Belfast might miss out on the tournament co-hosted by the UK and Ireland.


Recently, Ulster GAA and the Irish FA appealed to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, requesting government assistance to cover the funding shortfall.
