This project will coincide with the introduction of a one-way traffic system from the Tanyard through O’Connor Square. According to Offaly County Council, this change will facilitate the regeneration of the former Carroll’s and Coen’s sites, targeted in the Eastern and Midlands Regional Assembly’s Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy.

The council also states that the new link road will support a variety of mixed-use developments in the town centre. Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.

Anna Marie Delaney, Chief Executive of Offaly County Council, welcomed the development, stating:

“The Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy is a strategic plan that identifies regional assets, opportunities, and pressures, and provides appropriate policy responses through Regional Policy Objectives.

This project is funded by the Urban Regeneration Development Fund, through the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, and with the support of our elected officials, it continues to benefit local residents and the business community.”
