The renovated 31,800 square foot store, which first opened its doors in 2007, features larger homes, beauty, and women's clothes departments in addition to 18 self-checkout tills.

A crew of fifteen contractors worked at night while the store was closed to finish the refurbishment project, which took three months to complete. This allowed the store to continue serving clients during the day.

According to Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, the newly renovated Cork store offers a modern, fresh vibe along with a crucially improved shopping experience.

"This refurbishment reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our Irish stores and towns, with more exciting projects planned for the future," he stated.

Penneys/Primark has committed to investing over €250 million in Ireland by 2031, which involves building, moving and/or renovating its retail locations throughout the nation. The €4 million investment in Cork is a part of this promise.

Having started its first store on Mary St. in the heart of Dublin in 1969, Penneys has grown to run 38 locations throughout the Republic of Ireland.

This year, the company is celebrating 55 years in operation.
