Thirteen pupils whose grades are included in the total will be surprised since they did not file an appeal.
This year, 7,268 students challenged the outcomes of their Leaving Certificate against 14,287 individual grades. Compared to 2023, when 10.5% of candidates filed appeals, 12.8% of candidates filed appeals this year.
As a consequence of the appeals, 3,123 individual subject grades have been raised.
That comes to slightly more than one in every five grades that are examined. Compared to last year, this rate is a little lower.
Thirty-one more applicants who choose not to file an appeal will receive the unexpected news of a topic upgrade today since the SEC utilises the appeals procedure as an extra quality assurance check.
The SEC stated that all improvements have already been sent to the CAO and that the schools of the candidates would be informed of any changes in grades resulting from these quality assurance efforts.
Starting at 11 a.m., marks on the Candidate Self-Service Portal will be updated to reflect the modifications.
The original marking method is used to thoroughly assess each candidate's work question by question during the appeals stage.
A separate examiner from the one who first graded the paper completes the review.
This year's appeals procedure also has to provide the reapplication of the post-marking adjustment of marks after the marking of an appeal.
According to the SEC, applicants will be able to view their appeal findings and determine if their examination mark was altered during the appeal process. If so, they will also be able to view their final grade and new post-adjustment mark.
