The Courts Service launched the podcast series to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Irish legal system's founding in 1924.
Major personalities and cases from the previous century are featured in the five episodes.
The story of a prosecution for a public kiss, the historic challenge to the constitutionality of laws criminalising male homosexuality, the significance of the legislation allowing Ireland to have its own independent judicial system, Ireland's first female judge, Eileen Kennedy, and an analysis of how minor cases can have a significant impact are all included.
Judge Gráinne Malone of the District Court, Mr. Justice Cian Ferriter of the High Court, and Ms. Justice Iseult O'Malley of the Supreme Court have all been in charge of the project.
According to the Courts Service, the project cost approximately €9,500 in total and included assistance from an independent producer in addition to Courts Service employees. You can download the podcasts for free.
The Courts of Justice Act of 1924's implementation, according to Chief Justice Mr. Justice Donal O'Donnell, was "a remarkable achievement worthy of celebration" and a "really significant milestone" in the history of the nascent State.
According to him, the series' goal was to depict the human-interest aspect of law and to give life to some of the tales that were set against the backdrop of the legal system and had a distinct influence on Irish culture.
