More than 2,011 children receiving services are on waiting lists for psychiatric and developmental evaluations, per its most recent annual report.
The organisation is concerned, even though this is a drop from 2,374 individual referrals that were pending or waiting by the end of 2022. Over 600 people are waiting more than six months for services, and over half of those on the list have been waiting more than three months.
According to the report, it indicates that some kids are starting primary school without the assistance they require, and some of them are unable to access alternative learning opportunities because they lack a suitable diagnosis.
Children, parents, carers, and individuals can get trauma-informed, evidence-based services from the children's charity in their homes, schools, or at any of its 56 service locations.
Parental separation and conflict, emotional and behavioural problems, inappropriate housing, parental mental health, bereavement, poverty and imposed hardship, addiction, domestic violence and abuse, and delays in accessing essential assistance were among the adverse childhood experiences that services addressed.
Based on Barnardos, in-depth family support services are necessary to lessen the pain and harm that children who are exposed to these problems endure.
The organisation reported an overall loss of €700,000 in 2023 as a result of the increased demand for its services, and it has stated that it needs to raise €10 million this year to keep up with the rising demand.
