Despite the decline in arrivals, tourists spent more during their time in the country, contributing a total of €534.3 million to the economy in October—a 3.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Great Britain remained the largest source of visitors, accounting for 32.6% of arrivals, followed by the United States at 21.7% and Germany at 8.1%.
Holiday and leisure travel was the most common reason for visiting Ireland, with 44.2% of tourists citing it as their primary purpose.
While the total number of overnight stays reached 3.9 million nights in October, this marked a 2.1% decrease compared to October 2023. However, the average duration of stay for foreign overnight visitors increased slightly, rising from 6.9 nights in 2023 to 7.1 nights this year.
These figures highlight a mixed picture for Ireland’s tourism sector, with fewer visitors arriving but staying longer and spending more during their trips.
