Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his iconic role as Birmingham mobster Tommy Shelby in the film, which picks up after the events of the original BBC series that ran for six seasons between 2013 and 2022.
Following the completion of filming, Knight revealed it will take about a year before the film is released. Speaking to Times Radio about the release timeline, he said, “It’s a bit too soon for that, but you know, you can sort of work out that it will be about a year.”
When asked if there were plans for more Peaky Blinders content beyond the film, Knight hinted at future developments, saying, “It’s interesting you should ask that question because the film is coming out, and that won’t be the end.” However, he declined to share further details about what lies ahead.
The film, reportedly titled The Immortal Man, will explore new conflicts for the Shelby family during the Second World War. Joining Murphy is Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin), along with returning cast members Stephen Graham as union organizer Hayden Stagg and Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby. New additions to the cast include Rebecca Ferguson (Dune) and Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction).
Netflix recently shared a photo of Murphy and Keoghan in flat caps and suits, celebrating the completion of filming.
The film is directed by Tom Harper, who worked on episodes of the show’s first season in 2013. Knight teased the project as “an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
When the series concluded in 2022, Tommy appeared to leave his criminal life behind. Over six seasons, the show delved into themes such as the rise of fascism, Irish republicanism, and communist movements, all while chronicling Tommy’s political ambitions in the aftermath of World War I.
Beyond the screen, Knight adapted the series into a stage production titled The Redemption of Thomas Shelby. The limited-run show featured Rambert dancers and a live on-stage band, offering a unique reinterpretation of the Peaky Blinders legacy.
