Arthur Street's Revolución de Cuba had submitted an application to modify its seven-day annual entertainment permit. However, the proposal was withdrawn on January 22 during the Belfast City Council's Licensing Committee meeting.
The license report's details did not specify why the application was withdrawn, whether it was permanent, or whether the bar planned to submit a similar application in the future.
Currently, Revolución de Cuba has a licence to entertain 560 people indoors on the ground level and 170 people outdoors on the balcony.
The current indoor entertainment license's hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday, 11.30 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day, Friday and Saturday, 11.30 a.m. to 3 a.m. the next day, and Sunday, 12.30 p.m. to midnight.
The proposed extension of the hours on a Monday from 11.30 am to 3 am the next morning was the subject of the withdrawn variation application.
"The applicant has stated that the extension of hours to 3am is to respond to customer demand by launching a new student night," reads the council licensing report.
"No noise complaints have been received by the service in relation to the venue in the past 12 months," the report continued.
A public notice of the application was published in the media, however as a result of the advertisement, no written submission was submitted.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service had not yet responded to the council, and the PSNI had not objected to the proposal. "Authentic Cuban cocktail bar and restaurant within a stunning Art Nouveau building in the city centre" is how Revolución de Cuba bills itself.
