Connor Martin, the 29-year-old founder of The Essence Vault, has revealed plans for a new 11-million-pound manufacturing facility in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. The proposed expansion is set to create 300 jobs and solidify the company’s growing presence in the fragrance market.

The Essence Vault, part of Martin’s JAQ Group, specialises in affordable, luxury-inspired perfumes - popularly known as ‘dupes’ – that replicate high-end scents at a fraction of the price. Launched in 2019, the brand has surged in popularity, fuelled by social media marketing on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Currently employing around 230 people at its Craigstown Industrial Estate site near Randalstown, the company is expanding to meet rising demand. The new facility on Moorfields Road, close to the Larne Road Roundabout, will become JAQ Group’s main production base, manufacturing perfumes, skincare, and other beauty products. It will include manufacturing units, storage, office and parking, allowing for further growth.

The Essence Vault, which has grown into a 100 million pounds brand, achieved 30 million in pounds turnover in 2023, doubling its 2022 revenue. However, the company reported a pre-tax loss of 520,155 pounds, attributed to heavy investments in property, staffing, and brand development. The loss is expected to position the company for future profitability.

Connor Martin is optimistic, stating that these investments will support long-term growth. “These steps have created the right infrastructure for sustainable success,” he said. If approved, the Ballymena facility will become the cornerstone of the company’s future, enabling it to scale and create hundreds of new local jobs while meeting global demand for affordable luxury fragrances.
