He expects even more pharmacies to join the initiative over the coming week, aiming for full nationwide participation.

HRT is a treatment designed to alleviate menopause symptoms by replacing hormones that naturally decline during menopause. It can also help address related health concerns. The roll-out of free HRT through pharmacies began on 1 June, following an agreement reached last month with Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill.

The IPU has endorsed the scheme after the Government committed to reviewing the pharmacy fee structure. Mr Murray noted that pharmacists have always been eager to support women’s health and enhance access to important treatments.

Mr Murray shared that previous obstacles preventing pharmacies from enrolling in the HRT scheme have now been addressed. He expressed appreciation to the Minister of Health for advancing this initiative and making HRT free of charge.

Mr Murray encouraged women without a medical card to consider enrolling in the drug payment scheme, which can help them obtain the medicine. He also urged any woman interested in learning more about HRT and the new scheme to speak with their local pharmacist, who can offer information and support.

The expansion of free HRT through pharmacies is seen as a significant step in improving women's health in Ireland, ensuring that more women have access to this essential therapy. With nearly full coverage expected soon, pharmacists across the country are ready to assist women in managing menopausal symptoms and improving their overall health and well-being.
