One group in particular is gaining traction: the Singles Run Club, created by Samantha and Eoin Keating of “Your Friend, My Friend.” Launched in Dublin in September, the club offers singles a chance to meet like-minded people through monthly runs, with no dating apps or awkward small talk required.
What began as casual Wednesday evenings run in Ranelagh has since expanded to Sunday mornings in Rathmines, and even branched out to Cork and Galway.
Samatha believes this format works because it combines healthy habits with meaningful interactions. “It’s a great way to start your day. You go for a run, grab a coffee, maybe some snacks, and just chat,” she says. “And if someone catches your eye and you don’t get their number, we can always connect you afterwards, there’s no pressure.”
Even for those who don’t find romance, the sense of community keeps people coming back. “You’ve still done something good for yourself, and you’ve met great people,” she adds.
For members like Frances and Chris, traditional dating settings – bars, nightclubs, and especially dating apps – have lost their appeal. “I think you’re more likely to meet someone through shared activities like running or hiking,” says Frances. Chris agrees: “Apps didn’t work for me. I don’t drink much, so this feels more natural.”
He discovered the run on Instagram and has since had a few promising encounters, romantic and friendly alike. “It’s been a win either way.”
Newcomer Amy adds, “It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone. If you meet someone, great. If not, you’ve still made new friends.”
