The estate will be built on the site of a former school south of St Gerard’s Manor and north of Belfield Heights and Mill Race.
The estate will include cycleways, public open space, parking, and a play area for children.
The application for the state was made by Eglantine Developments Ltd. The application includes a total of 114 semi-detached houses, while the remaining units on the site will be divided between two apartment buildings.
The Northern Irish Housing Executive is supporting the new site due to the high demand for social housing in the area.
In spite of that support, the council received 10 objections to the new project. The letters of objection were primarily concerned with the loss of open spaces, the natural environment, safety, traffic, and school capacity, among other things.
