Planning authorisation for the Broadmeadow Greenway was obtained in 2020. Along with a procurement procedure with Irish Rail, preparatory works on both sides of the estuary have already been finished.
Since the project has been given a foreshore licence, construction may now start. It is anticipated that the intricate work, which is only possible during the summer, would be finished in 2026.
Work has commenced on a landmark greenway route that crosses the Malahide Estuary and connects Malahide Demesne to Newbridge Demesne.

The proposed greenway would connect the Donabate Distributor Road and Corballis East lands to the south, connecting newly constructed and pre-existing walkways and roads in Malahide and Donabate. Additionally, new infrastructure will transverse agricultural grounds.
A new 180-meter, 12-arch bridge will span the estuary next to the current rail line. It will be built on piers erected by the Fingal County Council to allow for future expansion after the rail line was rebuilt following its collapse in 2009.
