Minister of State Jack Chambers was officially announced as taking up the position on Wednesday during a brief news conference held outside Leinster House this evening.

Dara Calleary left the position in 2020 after the 'Golf-gate' controversy, and it has been vacant for a while.

Mr. Martin affirmed that he would steer the party towards the next general election.

During his tenure in Fianna Fáil, Mr. Martin claimed that Mr. Chambers had shown “extraordinary commitment and dedication to political life.”

In the most recent municipal elections, he was also commended for his performance as the party's director of elections.

According to Mr. Martin, “his appointment at this point is part of Fianna Fail's reorganisation in terms of resetting ourselves in the context of the next eight months and, in particular, the next general election, and we're very focused on that.”

“And Jack will now play a pivotal role in our larger endeavour to protect the seats we currently hold and secure additional seats in Dail Eireann when the opportunity arises."

According to Mr. Chambers, Fianna Fáil “exceeded all expectations” in the municipal and European elections.

He remarked, “But that's the past; we've drawn a line under it, and as a party, we're ambitious about the future.”
