More than 1,200 people are expected to participate in the run on Wednesday, July 24, ranging from passionate walkers to top athletes.
With a new route that passes via the historic St. James's Gate for the first time and a new strategic alliance with the Liberties Festival, this year's event is sure to be especially memorable.
Honouring its rich legacy in one of Dublin's liveliest areas, the Liberties Fun Run is a one-of-a-kind, timed 4-mile road run that winds through the centre of historic Dublin.
Starting from the stunning grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, the run will begin at 7.30 PM. It will travel through some of the most well-known locations in the Liberties, such as St. James's Gate, Francis Street, The Coombe, and Fatima.
The St. James's Hospital Foundation's Director of Development, Aisling Nolan, stated: “We are excited to bring back the Liberties Fun Run with exciting new elements and partnerships.”
This is a celebration of community, tradition, and health rather than just a race.
“We are appreciative of Diageo and the Liberties Festival's support, and we anticipate an amazing occasion that will greatly enhance the services we offer and generate much-needed funds.”
“We are delighted to be the main sponsor of the Liberties Fun Run in 2024,” stated Shane Kelly, Director of Corporate Relations at Diageo Ireland. Opening the renowned St. James's Gate to the Liberties runners is an honour that enables us to return a favour to the centre of the community in which we live.
Long a favourite of Dublin's running calendar, the Liberties Fun Run generates essential funds for St. James's Hospital and is renowned for its welcoming environment.
The St. James's Hospital Foundation organises the event, which helps fund a number of hospital activities and guarantees that the facility will always offer the community's best medical care and services.
This year, from July 22 to July 27, the race is prominently presented as the main event of the Liberties Festival, which honours the distinctive history, culture, and people of the Liberties.
The collaboration with the festival is expected to improve the experience for both attendees and participants by providing a lively blend of events, entertainment, and community involvement.
