It was discovered that Ireland is currently 20 times more likely to see its peak temperature of 33.3C than it was 80 years ago.

The Phoenix Park weather station reported the hottest temperature ever recorded in the Dublin area two years ago on July 18.

Slightly below the 33.3C national all-time record, it was 33C.

This Maynooth University study concentrated on estimating the frequency of such extremes' recurrence and the corresponding region that would be impacted.

The explanation they discovered was that in Ireland, high temperatures are now 20 times more likely to occur, having previously only happened once every 180 years.

Additionally, they discovered that the geographical effect of intense heat had more than doubled in this area, affecting a far larger number of individuals each time.
