In 2023, there was a 6.8% decline in greenhouse gas emissions across nearly all industries. In the last thirty years, greenhouse gas emissions have not been this low.

The energy and agricultural sectors saw the biggest annual decreases in emissions, while household emissions were at their lowest point since 1990. Transport-related emissions, on the other hand, were below pre-Covid levels.

Emissions from agriculture declined by 4.6% while emissions from power generation decreased by 21.6%.

While emissions per person fell from 11.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per person to 10.4 tonnes in 2023, residential emissions declined by 7.1%.

Nonetheless, there was a little 0.3% rise in transportation-related emissions.

These numbers are included in the 2023 tentative greenhouse gas emissions statistics released by the EPA.
