The eagerly awaited film, which chronicles the band Kneecap's attempts to break into the music business, won the prestigious Audience Award in addition to being voted the winner of the Best Irish Film and Best Irish Language Film categories.
Rich Peppiatt, the writer and director, spoke about their outstanding victories and added that the overwhelming support for the film "is something we'll never forget".
"For a film as dyed in the tricolour as Kneecap, the Irish premiere was always going to be special and the audiences in Galway have blown us away," said the director.
We will always remember being acknowledged at this lovely celebration in the manner that we have. Agat the Fleadh, raibh míle maith."
Producer Trevor Birney expressed his excitement for audiences to "finally see this special film," which is scheduled for release next month, saying it's "been an amazing week in Galway."
“Belfast hip-hop posse’s rambunctious farce is first film in event’s history to take audience award, best Irish-language feature and best Irish film.”
