The multi-million euro project has already begun its preparatory work, and it will likely take until next year to finish the painting.

The famous towers, which rise more than 200 meters above Dublin City, will have the red and white paint applied by a specialist team of contractors.

If the weather permits, painting the upper portion of the chimneys is scheduled for August and September.

The bottom part will be painted, with completion expected by summer 2025, starting in the spring of the following year.

Robert Laird, Major Contracts Manager at ESB Asset Management, stated that the painting is a component of ESB's endeavours to maintain the towers for the benefit of Dublin.

The oil-fired generating plant connected to these chimneys has been shut down for almost 15 years.

"Under normal circumstances, they would have been destroyed by now, but we are aware that they are a striking sight in the Dublin skyline.

"We have capped the chimneys, maintained them over the years, and in the last several years, we have done extensive concrete research work.

"We now know that the concrete is in good condition and we're happy to paint them which will give them a new lease of life for the next few years," he stated.
