However, with the announcement that Amazon.ie will launch as a dedicated site next year, the need to track packages across Europe will soon be a thing of the past.
This new store follows the opening of Amazon’s first fulfilment centre in Dublin in 2022, which created 500 jobs and provided customers with faster delivery, including One-Day Delivery, seven days a week.
According to Amazon, there are currently over 1,000 small and medium-sized Irish enterprises (SMEs) selling on their platform, generating over €150 million in export sales in 2022 alone. From 2020 to 2022, Amazon invested over €20 billion in supporting European SMEs, which resulted in more than €8 billion in export sales in 2022.
Amazon currently employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda across various roles, including data engineering, operations management, and finance, supporting an additional 9,000 jobs in the broader Irish economy.
The new Amazon.ie site will also benefit from a five-year agreement announced last year between Amazon and An Post, promising more convenient and faster deliveries and returns.
While the launch of Amazon.ie presents new opportunities for smaller Irish businesses to reach customers, the overall impact of a dedicated Irish site remains to be seen.
