Next month, Thompson Dock will host Shadowdock, a half-hour audiovisual theatrical production made possible by Gary Lightbody's charity.
The dry dock had "never before been used for an outdoor theatre performance of this scale," according to the organisers.
Known as the pier where the liner was worked on, the organisers intend to use the entire area to examine the beginnings of the city's maritime history and the ways in which the public may be involved in shaping the city's future.
There are two parts to the production. While the "below deck" portion, which is located in the dock itself, has narration heard through provided headphones, the "above deck" segment features a light display with music and narration played by speakers.
Henry Sykes, a designer, oversees Shadowdock in collaboration with the Three's Theatre Company. Katie Richardson created and played the music. Belfast City Council commissioned the event as a component of the Belfast 2024 cultural initiative.
"We're really excited to bring a world-first to one of Belfast's most famous landmarks," stated Mr. Sykes, creative director of Shadowdock. We're collaborating with local artists to produce an enthralling exhibition that asks important issues about the city's future while paying homage to its rich history.
