For those who depend on them, the sheer quantity of electric car charging stations around the nation is a continual source of annoyance.
There are currently little over 2,400 of them, and by the end of the next year, an additional 130 are promised.
Over the following five years, SSE intends to construct 300 additional ten-bay centres throughout Ireland and the UK.
The Mullingar facility is the first of its type in Ireland and has four long-wheelbase drive-through bays designed specifically for eHGVs.
Up to 150 kW of charging power may be provided by each ultra-rapid bay, which is enough to charge 12.5 km of range every minute.
The facility, which is part of SSE's ambitions to establish 300 ultra-rapid EV charging hubs powered by traceable, renewable energy across Ireland and the UK in the next five years, is situated at Lough Sheever Corporate Park, just off the M4. Several sites are currently online, and more are being built.
In the upcoming months, SSE plans to build more hubs in the Greenogue Industrial Estate and Blanchardstown Business Park in Dublin, as well as the Ashbourne Retail Park in County Meath.
Sean O'Callaghan, Director of EV Operations at SSE, stated that the company is constructing a nationwide network of convenient charging locations.
"The installation of speedy and dependable EV charging infrastructure is crucial, as the number of EVs on Irish roads is increasing rapidly.
"The launch of our first ultra-rapid charging hub in Ireland is proof that SSE will support the Irish Government’s ambitions to meet the demand for this infrastructure and this is just the beginning of our ambitions."
Peter Burke, the Minister of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, will formally inaugurate the Mullingar centre.
