Online videos suggest that fake QR code stickers are being placed on machines, allowing drivers to pay for parking through their phones.
Dublin City Council has confirmed the presence of fraudulent QR stickers on pay-and-display machines in various parts of the city. Scanning these QR codes directs users to a fake website that asks for credit card information and personal details.
The council urges motorists not to scan any QR or barcodes found on parking meters. Instead, they recommend using the official Payzone app for parking payments.
It has been reported that one woman lost €1,000 after unknowingly scanning one of these fraudulent codes. Gardaí are investigating the matter.
