The business will apply for planning approval for the new Wallingstown, Little Island, site. As it prepares to grow, the hub will be used to enhance its logistical infrastructure in the south and southeast.
"Our ambitious expansion plans to increase our store footprint across Munster and the southeast region over the next five years are well underway with new stores set to welcome customers over the coming months," Lidl Ireland's Regional Managing Director for Munster, Tara O'Connor, stated.
"There are many other stores in the pipeline at various stages of the planning process so this investment in a new distribution centre is vital to meet the future needs of the business and to ensure we can continue to provide great value to our customers across the region."
Lidl already has three regional distribution centres in the following locations: Newbridge, Mullingar, and Charleville. Its 180 stores, including 50 in Munster, are serviced by these.
Early in2025, a new Lidl shop is scheduled to open in Ballysimon, Limerick, and the company is presently in the planning stages for six further locations in the Munster region, which include the counties of Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Clare, and Waterford.
It is hoped that the new Cork facility will open by 2030, assuming planning approval is obtained.
