The team led by Scott Bemand has been drawn to play in Pool C of the tournament the following year against Japan, Spain, and the Black Ferns.

Less than three weeks have passed since Ireland pulled off the surprise of the year by defeating New Zealand 29–27 in their WXV opener.

They later finished second overall following victories against the USA and Canada. Ireland and Spain will also resume their rivalry at the competition, which begins in England on August 22.Adam Griggs' team did not qualify for the 2022 tournament in New Zealand in large part because of Spain's victory over Ireland in Parma in 2021; nevertheless, Ireland went on to defeat the Spanish in the WXV3 final last year.

Japan, their other pool rival, is also well-known to Ireland, as the two teams played a two-Test series away from home in the summer of 2022. Ireland, who began 2024 ranked 10th in the world, moved up to sixth after finishing third in the Six Nations and an outstanding WXV campaign.

They are among the second seeds for this evening's draw.


Favourites of the tournament and the hosts Pool B consists of Canada, Scotland, Wales, and Fiji, while England has been assigned to play Australia, the United States, and Samoa. World No. 4 France will play South Africa, Brazil, and their Six Nations rivals, Italy, in Pool D.

On Tuesday, October 22, the tournament's schedule for the upcoming summer will be revealed.

Over the course of three weekends, teams will play each other in their pool, with the top two teams in each pool based on competition points moving on to the quarterfinals and elimination stage.
