Dublin City Council granted planning permission to MNG Mango Ireland Ltd to proceed with the necessary works at 112-113 Grafton Street, marking a significant retail boost for the area.

While planning permission for a three-storey over basement retail outlet was originally granted in 2015 and 2019, the space was constructed but never occupied. Mango now plans to fit out and open the store.

The Council’s planning report highlighted that the proposed store’s size, scale, and location would not detract from the civic character of the area.

As part of the permission, the council has required Mango to remove two suspended signs from the shop front and reduce the height of the fascia signage letters to 300mm. The report explained that combining fascia signage with suspended signs would create visual clutter and set a negative precedent for signage in the area.

Located just off the main Grafton Street strip, the store will be near other prominent retailers, including Lush, Icicle, and Butler’s Chocolate Café.

This application follows Mango’s recent store opening at Dundrum Town Centre in May. According to planning consultants Thornton O’Connor, the new store will bring a high-end fashion brand to Dublin’s premier shopping street.

Sadhbh O’Connor, Director at Thornton O’Connor, stated that the store would meet demand in the area and positively contribute to Grafton Street’s character by enhancing its vibrant retail environment.

O’Connor added that the store would provide economic benefits and employment opportunities for the city.

Mango is also seeking to change the use of the second level, previously approved for café-restaurant purposes, to retail.

In a detailed 41-page planning report, O’Connor emphasized that high-end retail outlets are encouraged by the Special Scheme of Planning Control for Grafton Street and its surroundings. She argued that the addition of a premium fashion retailer would enhance the area’s vitality and vibrancy.
