The innovation is a component of a larger area revitalisation project that will also involve upgrades to the public infrastructure in the upcoming years.
With €1.3 million in funding from Fáilte Ireland's Platforms for Growth Scheme, the water sports facility will provide "best-in-class" water activity facilities for both locals and tourists.
After the tender process is over, construction on the watersports complex is scheduled to begin next month.
All users will be able to participate in activities including kayaking, surfing, paddle boarding, and sea swimming.
Phase one of the Ardmore regeneration plan will also include the construction of a new relief road, a parking lot, public realm improvements, a new public walkway that connects the town to the GAA field, and the renovation of the Sandcastle Building, which houses the lifeguard station and public restrooms.
A total of €3.27 million has been approved through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund of the Department of Rural and Community Development for Ardmore, which was designated as a priority town for investment by Waterford City and County Council due to property vacancy, dereliction, and population decline.
The Sandcastle Building tendering process will begin in the coming weeks, and on-site construction is anticipated to be completed by June.
The relief road's detailed design and public realm projects are also scheduled to begin soon. Regarding the Town Centre First Plan as a whole, Waterford City and County Council stated, "The aim of the proposal is to create an extension of the village core, along the proposed relief road, in which people will live, connect, and engage with their physical environment."
