Rahm, a two-time major winner, shared the news on social media with a simple message: “Tom McKibbin, welcome to the team, let’s go,” accompanied by a celebratory fist pump. McKibbin will join Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and American Caleb Surratt on the Saudi-funded tour.
The 22-year-old is reported to have signed a three-year contract worth $5 million (€4.8 million), with his LIV debut set to take place in Riyadh next week when the league kicks off its fourth season.
McKibbin becomes the second prominent Irish golfer to join the tour, following 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell, who was among the first to switch to LIV in 2022.
The news of McKibbin’s departure was a surprise, especially after his strong performance in the 2024 season, where he finished 18th in the Race to Dubai, securing dual membership of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour for 2025.

Rory McIlroy, his fellow Holywood native and mentor, has been a vocal critic of LIV, expressing disappointment over McKibbin’s decision. “I wouldn’t make that decision,” McIlroy said. However, he acknowledged
McKibbin’s right to choose for himself: “He’s a grown man and can make his own decisions. All I can do is offer my perspective. Personally, it would be a little disappointing if it happened.”
McIlroy added, “I’ve made it clear: I’m not going to stand in his way if he feels it’s the right decision for him. But at the same time, I feel like he’s giving up a lot for not much in return.”
He concluded, “At the end of the day, he has to make his own decision, and whatever way it goes, I’ll always be a fan of his and will support him however I can.”
