The 131-bedroom hotel, owned by Paddy Kearney’s Loughview Leisure Group, is undergoing a major investment programme as part of Hilton’s expansion strategy in Northern Ireland.
Loughview Leisure has already partnered with Hilton for the Kingfisher Country Estate in Templepatrick, acquired in 2021, and recently completed a multi-million-pound refurbishment of the 220-acre golf resort in Co Antrim.
Hilton is further strengthening its presence across Northern Ireland through franchise deals, including the City Hotel in Derry, set to rebrand as DoubleTree, and the upcoming Andras House Marcus Hotel in Portrush, which will join Hilton’s Tapestry Collection.
Chris Kearney, Loughview’s group finance director, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership stating that “We are delighted to work with Hilton on this fantastic development in the heart of Belfast, as part of our ongoing partnership. We take great pride in continuing to drive investment into the capital, contributing to its dynamic evolution and increasing global appeal”.
Hilton’s UK & Ireland development managing director, Graham Dodd, highlighted the significance of the move, “The signing of DoubleTree by Hilton in Belfast marks a significant milestone in Hilton’s growing presence across Northern Ireland. Welcoming this fantastic property to our portfolio will further cement Belfast’s status as a premier destination for travellers from near and far”.
Beyond Ten Square and Kingfisher, Loughview has planning approval for a 146-bedroom hotel at Centre House on Chichester Street, Belfast.
Two hotels within the group’s portfolio – Loughshore Hotel in Carrickfergus and Chimney Corner Hotel in Newtownabbey – were closed to the public in 2021 due to UK Government contracts housing asylum seekers, ensuring 100% occupancy.
Loughshore was sold in 2023, while Chimney Corner remains closed.
