In May 2023, An Bord Pleanála approved the construction of 852 affordable homes on this site. However, the project is currently on hold due to a legal challenge from a local resident, which the LDA is contesting.
The LDA has been working closely with DLRCC to “unlock this land and maximize the delivery of affordable and social homes on the site.”
The proposed development includes 753 new affordable and cost rental homes, along with 181 social homes, significantly boosting the housing supply in the Dundrum area.
The new plans largely adhere to the existing approval, featuring a mix of apartments, duplexes, and community homes. These options cater to various needs, including families, first-time buyers, older residents, and renters. In response to concerns raised during the initial consultation, the heights of apartment buildings along the boundary have been reduced, with overall heights ranging from 2 to 8 storeys across the site.

The development will also offer extensive amenities, including a community center with indoor sports facilities, a medical center, retail units, a café, a creche, and a new public plaza. This will “transform what is currently a closed 11-hectare site into a new welcoming, socially integrated, and sustainable urban community.”
Information meetings and webinars to discuss the plans will take place on September 10th from 10am-1pm and September 12th from 4pm-8pm at the Dundrum Library. Full details about the Part 10 application process are available at Dundrum Central.
John Coleman, Chief Executive of the Land Development Agency, stated: “Dundrum Central is a flagship development for the LDA, delivering much-needed affordable homes in a prime location. This project has the potential to completely transform the area, providing new community and sports facilities, retail, and open green spaces for current and future residents.
“We are optimistic that through our partnership with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, we can build on the trust and confidence gained during the initial consultation process. We have worked extensively on these plans and believe they will create a vastly improved community in Dundrum.”
