In Derry, the birthplace of the civil rights movement, Peace and Conflict Studies and INCORE (International Conflict Research Institute) were synonymous.

John Hume, a major architect of the Good Friday Agreement, and Martin McGuinness, an IRA leader who later became a peace negotiator, also called the city home.

The John Hume and Thomas P. O'Neill Chair in Peace in Derry was established by Ulster University "in line with strategic priorities" as part of INCORE.

Veteran civil rights campaigner Eamonn McCann claimed it "made no sense" when the Masters program in Peace and Conflict Studies was transferred from Derry to Belfast in 2017 because Magee was recruiting well for it.

It has now been revealed that the program will likely be offered at Magee again at an as-yet-unconfirmed date.

According to UU, half of the INCORE workforce is based at Magee, and in the upcoming weeks, it will be posting job openings for an additional Director of INCORE role.

It has also been revealed that courses in sociology would be available in Derry in addition to those in politics.

All of these courses will be given at UU's Belfast and Derry campuses since they are duplicates.
