The League of Ireland Premier Division side, having won two and drawn one of their first three group games, delivered another resilient performance to deny Rapid Vienna, twice runners-up in the European Cup Winners’ Cup, all three points.

Rapid struck early through Nenad Cvetkovic, whose ninth-minute volley left goalkeeper Leon Pohls with no chance. Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Austrian side failed to build on their lead, with Mamadou Sangare and Dion Beljo also coming close.

Shamrock Rovers remained composed and went into halftime trailing by just one goal. Early in the second half, Rapid had a penalty decision overturned by VAR, and moments later, the visitors struck back. Johnny Kenny levelled the score in the 55th minute, converting Josh Honohan’s cross from close range.

Stephen Bradley’s men showed great determination throughout the match, and Kenny nearly grabbed a second goal in the closing stages. However, Rapid’s defence managed to clear the danger, securing a point for each side in an engaging encounter.
